Titiek Soeharto Appreciates Police Handling of Sumatra Disasters: On the Ground Since Day One
Jakarta - Commission IV DPR Chairwoman Siti Hediati Hariyadi, also known as Titiek Soeharto, together with National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, visited disaster victims at evacuation shelters in Central Tapanuli Regency, North Sumatra.
Titiek expressed her appreciation for the police being on the ground since day one to handle the floods and landslides in Sumatra.
“I also want to thank the TNI and police personnel, especially the police whom I have seen since day one wading through the mud and so on to help the community clear timber and mud from houses, as well as bringing food and supplies needed by the people,” Titiek said at the Pinangsori Hajj Dormitory Temporary Shelter in Central Tapanuli, North Sumatra, on Sunday (2/15/2026).
During the visit, the National Police Chief and Titiek handed over aid brought by 16 trucks. The police also deployed mobile water treatment units for clean water processing.
“I also saw earlier — thank you to the National Police Chief — from the Brimob unit, a mobile water treatment unit. So river water, brackish water, even seawater can be distilled and treated until it becomes clean water ready to drink,” Titiek said.
Titiek said the mobile water treatment unit will travel around disaster-affected areas to help meet residents’ clean water needs. She hopes the vehicle can be deployed to other disaster sites across Sumatra.
“And this is mobile — it goes around the areas, so it greatly helps the community who desperately need clean water. Once again, thank you. Hopefully there can be more of these vehicles for other affected areas as well,” she said.
During the visit, the National Police Chief and Titiek inspected the hajj dormitory temporary shelters, handed over social aid, and reviewed the health post. They also greeted and engaged in dialogue with local residents.
A total of 16 social service trucks were deployed to distribute aid in Central Tapanuli. The trucks contained basic necessities, clothing, school uniforms, children’s toys, stationery, cement, mosque carpets, sarongs, prayer garments, Qurans, clean water tanker trucks, and mobile water treatment units.
