Timor sedan sales slump
JAKARTA: Ballooning inventories of the Timor sedans has forced Timor Distributor Nasional to revise it sales target down by 25 percent.
The company president, Suparto Soejatmo, said last week that intensified competition with other models, including low-priced Japanese cars, had forced the decision.
Suparto admitted that sales of Timor cars had slowed recently. He said that the monthly target was now between 3,000 and 4,000 cars, down from the original plan of more than 4,000.
Since its debut in September, 5,800 Timors have been sold, about half the initial target.
According to a Nikkei English News report PT Timor was approaching government offices and the military to promote sales.
The cars are manufactured by Kia Motors Co for PT Timor Putra Nasional of Indonesia.
