TikTok Deactivates 780,000 Accounts of Users Under 16 to Comply with PP Tunas
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Indonesia’s Minister of Communication and Digital (Menkomdigi), Meutya Hafid, revealed that the digital platform TikTok has deactivated 780,000 user accounts known to belong to individuals under 16 years old.
“TikTok is the first platform to report that as of 10 April 2026, it has deactivated 780,000 accounts of children under 16 in Indonesia,” said Meutya during a press conference at the Komdigi Office in Central Jakarta on Tuesday (14/4/2026).
According to Meutya, this step represents a positive victory for the public, parents, and especially the future of children in Indonesia.
“We once again appreciate TikTok for reporting early on the number of accounts successfully taken down,” she stated.
Currently, the platform has implemented global setting adjustments in the United States.
“This is a new feature for Roblox worldwide as part of compliance with social media bans or delays for children entering social media and games,” she said.
However, Komdigi firmly reminds Roblox to follow the applicable rules in Indonesia through PP TUNAS.
“We remind them to also follow the applicable rules in Indonesia through PP TUNAS regarding indications of high risk (to children),” said Meutya.
Meutya stated that her side has found that these setting adjustments still allow communication or chat with unknown individuals.
In addition to issuing warnings, Komdigi also urges all other digital platforms to promptly ensure compliance with PP TUNAS.
The government requests that every platform submit policy implementation plans and report the results of independent risk profile assessments no later than within three months.
The eight platforms in the initial phase of PP TUNAS implementation include Facebook, Instagram, Threads, X, Bigo Live, YouTube, TikTok, and Roblox.
Now, only YouTube under Google and Roblox have yet to meet the requirements.
