TikTok Complies with PP Tunas on Social Media Restrictions for Children
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs (Menkomdigi) Meutya Hafid stated that the social media platform TikTok has complied with Government Regulation number 17 of 2025 on the Governance of Electronic System Operators in Child Protection and its derivative regulations. The regulation stipulates restrictions on social media access for children under 16 years old. Meutya appreciated TikTok’s good faith in deciding to comply with PP Tunas as an effort to protect Indonesian children in the digital realm. “We are pleased that today the government can express appreciation to the TikTok platform, which has decided to join the collective movement to protect children, especially in Indonesia,” Meutya said at the Menkomdigi office in Jakarta on Tuesday. In addition, TikTok has stated that the minimum age limit for users of its platform is 16 years through a publication on its help centre page. The social media platform is also said to be committed to gradually updating the implementation of this policy. Meutya said that TikTok is the first digital platform to report that it has deactivated accounts of children under 16 years old in Indonesia. As of 10 April 2026, TikTok has recorded deactivating 780,000 accounts of children under 16. Meutya encouraged other digital platforms to follow TikTok’s steps by reporting the number of child accounts under 16 that have been deactivated. Thus, there are now six out of eight platforms in the initial implementation phase of PP Tunas that have stated their compliance, namely X, Bigolive, Instagram, Facebook, Threads, and TikTok. Meanwhile, Roblox and YouTube are still categorised as platforms that have not fully complied with the PP Tunas provisions. Menkomdigi gives a three-month deadline to other digital platforms to submit reports on the results of their self-assessment regarding the risk profiles of their products, features, and services.
