Tighter security in E. Timor

DILI, East Timor: Local military chief Col. Kiki Syahnakri has
ordered tighter security across the province ahead of the
upcoming conciliatory meeting between pro- and anti-integration
East Timorese leaders in Salzburg, Austria.

"Although the schedule (of the meeting) has not been
determined, security has to be tightened in anticipation of
disturbances by irresponsible people," he said, as quoted by
Antara.

He said that whatever came out of the meeting, it would not
change the status of East Timor as part of Indonesia.

"What we are supposed to do is maintain security and stability
to ensure development," he said. (pan)
