JAKARTA (JP): The elite Jakarta detectives speed reaction
unit, known by its acronym URC, has deployed three of its high-
speed patrol cars on the Jagorawi toll road to help arrest
careless drivers.
Lt. Col. Edi Darnadi, a senior URC officer, said on Thursday
that the three vehicles, all of which are sports cars, are
equipped with standard investigation kits and safety tools.
"The black cars are driven by talented personnel who are
assigned to chase after reckless drivers on the highway," Edi
said.
The Jagorawi highway, which links the capital with cities in
West Java, has witnessed a great number of traffic accidents,
mainly caused by stubborn and reckless drivers.
According to City Police Spokesman Lt. Col. Iman Haryatna, the
team is also assigned to corner vehicles driven by wanted
criminals.
"If needed, we may deploy similar units on other toll roads in
the near future," the spokesman said. (bsr/04)
