REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – Chairman of the Nahdlatul Ulama Executive Board (PBNU), Ahmad Fahrur Rozi (Gus Fahrur), has urged the Indonesian government to take a firm stance at the United Nations (UN) following the deaths of three TNI soldiers due to an Israeli missile attack. According to him, the incident constitutes a serious violation of international law and the world’s peace mandate.

Gus Fahrur emphasised that Indonesia must strongly condemn the attack and push for a comprehensive investigation by the UN peacekeeping mission, the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL). He assessed that attacks targeting peacekeeping personnel cannot be tolerated under any circumstances.

“Indonesia must strongly condemn the attack as a grave violation of international law and the UN mandate and urge the UN (UNIFIL) to conduct a thorough investigation into the attack that deliberately targeted peacekeeping personnel,” said Gus Fahrur when contacted by Republika on Tuesday (31/3/2026).

According to Gus Fahrur, the Indonesian government must demand accountability and seek compensation from Israel for the loss of life among the peacekeeping forces.

In addition to diplomatic steps at the UN, he also highlighted Indonesia’s position in the Board of Peace (BoP), which has so far been part of the international cooperation scheme related to peacekeeping missions. In his view, the option of withdrawing from the BoP should be considered as a form of strong political protest.

“Withdrawing from the BoP is one of the best options that needs to be considered, because the BoP is already ineffective, to send a strong political message to the US (as the initiator) and Israel that Indonesia will not tolerate violence against its troops or violations of peace in any region,” he said.

As is known, on Monday (30/3/2026), the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Kemlu) stated that one member of the UNIFIL peacekeeping contingent from Indonesia was killed due to artillery fire near the position of the Indonesian UNIFIL contingent in Adchit Al Qusayr, southern Lebanon, on Sunday (29/3/2026).

Praka Farizal Rhomadhon was confirmed dead in the incident, while three other personnel, namely Praka Rico Pramudia, Praka Bayu Prakoso, and Praka Arif Kurniawan, were injured.

In his statement at UN Headquarters in New York, as quoted in Jakarta on Tuesday (31/3/2026), UN Under-Secretary-General for Peacekeeping Operations Jean-Pierre Lacroix once again announced that two Indonesian UNIFIL peacekeepers were killed due to an explosion that hit the peacekeeping forces’ logistics convoy in Lebanon on Monday (30/3/2026).

“Two Indonesian peacekeepers lost their lives in an explosion that struck the UNIFIL logistics convoy, destroying their vehicle near Bani Hayyan in the eastern sector. Two other peacekeepers were injured, one of them seriously. We strongly condemn these unacceptable incidents, and peacekeepers must not be targeted,” said Lacroix.
