Three TNI Soldiers Fall in Lebanon, PDIP Urges Prabowo to Consider Withdrawing from Board of Peace
A member of Commission I of the House of Representatives from the PDI
Perjuangan faction, TB Hasanuddin, has reminded President Prabowo
Subianto to consider the option of withdrawing from the Board of Peace
(BoP) established by US President Donald Trump. This statement comes in
response to the incident in which three TNI soldiers, part of the United
Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) peacekeeping contingent, were
killed in Lebanon due to an Israeli attack on a post area and
convoy.
Hasanuddin has criticised Israel’s behaviour, which he
deems non-compliant with international rules. Based on this
non-compliance, he has urged the Indonesian government to reconsider
plans to withdraw from the BoP.
“Well, like this. With the
situation like that, yes, this is just predictions, predictions. We know
that Israel is naughty. Even not obedient to UN resolutions. Even though
Israel is also under the UN. That’s it. So I imagine if it’s under the
BoP led by US President Donald Trump, what would it be like? So, it
would be wasteful if we are in the BoP territory. Like that,” said
Hasanuddin at the Parliamentary Complex in Senayan, Central Jakarta, on
Wednesday (1/4/2026).
Hasanuddin stated that Indonesia needs to
carefully calculate the benefits and risks of being in the BoP while
Israel is still involved. He said the deaths of the three TNI soldiers
in Lebanon serve as evidence that Israel acts as it pleases, making the
hoped-for peace difficult to achieve.
“So, in my opinion, it
should be considered repeatedly first, what are the benefits of being in
the BoP and the possibilities of unwanted things happening. Let alone in
the BoP, it acts according to its whims. Yes. Even now under the UN
alone, it is already disobedient,” he said.
Hasanuddin has warned
the government not to act rashly, given plans for large-scale force
deployment in that mission reaching thousands of
soldiers.
“Rather than us getting into trouble later, especially
having to send the largest force of 8,000 personnel. Like that,” he
concluded.
