Three TNI Personnel Fall in Lebanon, Puan Supports Government in Demanding Investigation
House of Representatives Speaker Puan Maharani has expressed grief over the deaths of three TNI soldiers serving as UN Peacekeeping Troops in Lebanon (United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon/UNIFIL) due to an Israeli attack. As known, the three TNI soldiers died in two separate incidents on 29 and 30 March 2026 in southern Lebanon, including a member of the Peacekeeping Contingent, Private Farizal Rhomadhon.
“On behalf of the House of Representatives or personally, I convey my deepest condolences over the passing of three sons of the nation who were carrying out humanitarian duties in Lebanon,” stated Puan in a written statement on Tuesday (31/3/2026).
The deaths of the three soldiers occurred amid escalating conflict between the Israeli military (IDF) and Hezbollah. Puan Maharani supports the government’s steps in requesting relevant authorities to investigate the deaths of the Indonesian Peacekeeping Troops.
“The state has the right to demand accountability from the international community as a form of protection for every drop of Indonesian blood,” she emphasised.
For Puan, the sacrifice of TNI soldiers in Lebanon serves as a reminder that Indonesia’s position on the international stage is built not only through political statements but also through the real courage of the nation’s children standing on the front lines when the world faces conflict.
Therefore, Puan believes the best tribute to the fallen soldiers is to ensure that their dedication strengthens national and international awareness.
“An awareness that world peace is not an agenda far from Indonesia’s interests, but part of a responsibility that always carries real consequences,” she stated.
“Indonesia’s involvement in maintaining world peace has never been in a completely safe space, even though it is carried out under an international mandate,” she added.
According to her, Indonesia’s presence in global peacekeeping operations has often been understood by the public merely as a symbol of the country’s active diplomacy.
“However, the incident in Lebanon shows that behind that symbol lies real risks that must be read as part of changes in the global conflict landscape, where the boundaries between war zones, civilian areas, and international protection zones are becoming increasingly blurred,” she explained.
“When Indonesian soldiers fall in a peacekeeping mission, it shows that Indonesia’s commitment to international peace is always paid with heavy responsibilities,” she added.
In Puan’s view, this incident also reaffirms the importance of maintaining a balance between Indonesia’s international commitments and maximum protection for assigned personnel.
“The courage of Indonesian troops in conflict zones must always be followed by the state’s readiness to ensure that every threat development is mapped more adaptively,” she clarified.
Puan hopes this incident can increase awareness among all parties of the importance of steps and efforts to create peace, especially for parties still engaged in prolonged geopolitical conflicts.
“The war must be stopped immediately! How many more victims must fall for the power of certain parties. The UN must dare to act firmly,” she said.
On the other hand, Puan encourages the Government and TNI to provide fitting honours for the three soldiers who fell in Lebanon, including ensuring their rights as humanitarian heroes are fulfilled.
“These three best sons of Indonesia fell while carrying out noble duties as guardians of world peace. It is only fitting that the state gives them the best appreciation for their sacrifice,” she concluded.
