Three Suspects Arrested After Billions of Rupiah Worth of Batik Stolen from Inacraft Exhibition at JCC
Jakarta, VIVA – Indonesia’s largest craft exhibition, Inacraft, has been marred by criminal activity. A collection of premium hand-drawn batik valued at Rp1.3 billion vanished from one of the stands at the Jakarta International Convention Center (JCC) Senayan, Jakarta.
The theft occurred on 3 February 2026. The perpetrators targeted a stand displaying high-quality hand-drawn batik. This was revealed by the Head of the Tanah Abang Metropolitan Police Sector, Adjunct Senior Commissioner of Police (AKBP) Dhimas Prasetyo.
“It was only from one stand and it was indeed carried out at night on 3 February 2026,” he said, as quoted on Monday, 16 February 2026.
Dhimas disclosed that the perpetrators struck at night before the exhibition opened. The timing was believed to have been exploited because the venue was not yet as busy as during operational hours.
Despite losses reaching billions of rupiah, police confirmed that all stolen goods were successfully recovered. None of the items had been sold by the perpetrators.
Police have now apprehended three suspects. The arrests were made on 12 February 2026. All three have been named as suspects and charged under Article 477 of the Criminal Code.
“Three suspects have indeed been arrested,” he said.
Police suspect this was not a spontaneous crime. The perpetrators are believed to have committed similar offences before.
“This is not the first time the perpetrators have done this, so they likely already knew the conditions that would allow them to carry out their actions,” he said.
