Tangerang (ANTARA) - PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) Daerah Operasi 1 Jakarta has reported that three points of railway signalling devices on the Commuter Line route at Daru Station, Tangerang-Parung Panjang, were stolen by unidentified individuals. The incident caused disruptions to Commuter Line operations, affecting the train journey detection system on both upstream and downstream tracks early on Friday (8/5). “Following an inspection by officers, it was discovered that unknown persons had stolen the counting head axle counter cables at Km 50+5/6 on the Daru-Parungpanjang line,” said Manager of Public Relations for KAI Daop 1 Jakarta, Franoto Wibowo, in a written statement received in Tangerang on Friday. He explained that the initial report was received on Friday around 01:38 WIB from the Head of Daru Station regarding disruptions to several track circuits on both upstream and downstream lines. Subsequently, the team conducted a search and found three locations of theft, impacting a total of six zones of axle counter devices. These devices are a crucial part of the railway journey safety system as they function to detect the presence of train sets on the tracks. “KAI Daop 1 immediately carried out repairs by deploying a technical team to repair and replace the missing devices,” he stated. He added that after the incident, by 07:05 WIB, all disruptions were reported as normal following the replacement of the counting heads. As a result of the incident, eight Commuter Line journeys experienced delays, with a total delay contribution of 28 minutes. Regarding the journey disruptions, KAI Daop 1 expressed apologies to all affected customers. “We apologise to our customers for the disruption to train services due to this vandalism. Our officers acted swiftly to handle the situation so that operations could return to normal while still prioritising railway journey safety,” he said. KAI Daop 1 urged the public to immediately report to officers or local authorities if they see suspicious activities around the tracks and railway facilities. Public collaboration is greatly needed to create safe, secure, and reliable train journeys. “KAI continues to enhance the security of railway assets through routine patrols and coordination with local authorities. However, railway journey safety also requires support from all elements of society,” he added.
