Three over stay foreigners arrested
JAKARTA (JP): Immigration officers arrested three foreigners holding Yemen, Syrian and Moroccan passports respectively, for overstaying.
The head of immigration's control and supervision department, Zaiman Nurmatias, said the three men were arrested at their rented homes on Jl. Kramat Sentiong, Central Jakarta, Tuesday.
The three were Lazreg Abelillah with Yemen passport number H889312; Abdul Rahman with Syrian passport number 799240; and Ahmad Kasem with Moroccan passport number 2301630.
The three had not tried to extend their visas which allowed them to stay only one year, Zaiman said.
He said the three were married to Indonesians but none could show legal marriage documents.
"Many foreigners marry Indonesians so they can work and stay longer without proper documents," he said. The three said that they worked in fashion and modeling.
One of the arrested men tried to bribe the officers but got no response, Zaiman said.
He said the arrests were conducted after his office received information from their neighbors.
"Indonesians who plan to marry foreigners should first check on their spouses' identities and documents to avoid problems in the future," Zaiman said. (04)
