Three Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) soldiers, who were part of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon mission in southern Lebanon, fell in a series of attacks that occurred over the last two days (29-30 March 2026). In addition, five other soldiers sustained injuries and are currently undergoing intensive treatment at a local hospital.

The General Chairman of the United Development Party (PPP), Muhamad Mardiono, expressed deep condolences over the deaths of the soldiers. Mardiono condemned the attacks on the peacekeeping forces who were carrying out an international mandate.

The attacks, suspected to have been carried out by the Israeli military, were deemed a serious violation of international humanitarian law and a threat to the principle of protection for global humanitarian missions. According to Mardiono, such actions cannot be justified under any circumstances.

“Attacks on peacekeeping forces are inhumane acts that undermine the world’s commitment to maintaining global stability,” he said on Tuesday, 31 March 2026. According to Mardiono, the attacks not only harm Indonesia but also damage trust in international peacekeeping missions.

Mardiono stated that the presence of TNI soldiers in the UN mission represents Indonesia’s tangible contribution to maintaining world peace. Therefore, any attacks against them must be viewed as a threat to universal humanitarian values.

In line with the official statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, Mardiono noted that the Indonesian government is calling for a thorough and transparent investigation into the incident. The Indonesian government also emphasises that the safety and security of UN peacekeeping personnel must be fully respected in accordance with international law. Indonesia assesses that any actions endangering peacekeeping forces are unacceptable.
