Three Indonesian Seafarers from Chinese Ship Hit by Missile in Arabian Sea Repatriated to Indonesia
The Chinese vessel MV Gold Autumn, carrying three Indonesian crew members (ABK), was hit by a missile in the Arabian Sea. The three individuals have now been repatriated to Indonesia.
In its statement on Saturday (18 April 2026), the Indonesian Consulate General in Karachi (KJRI Karachi) assisted in facilitating the issuance of replacement passports, loss certificates, and the processing of other important documents required for the repatriation process. Additionally, KJRI Karachi ensured the fulfilment of the victims’ basic needs during the handling period in Karachi.
To accelerate the repatriation process, KJRI Karachi conducted intensive coordination with various relevant agencies, both in Pakistan and Indonesia, including the ship’s agent.
“After waiting for the document resolution process for crew members from several other countries for approximately one week, the three Indonesian crew members are scheduled to return to Indonesia from Karachi on 18 April 2026 and are expected to arrive in the homeland on 19 April 2026,” stated KJRI Karachi.
The Consul General of Indonesia in Karachi, Mudzakir, saw off the three Indonesian nationals. KJRI Karachi will continue to coordinate with the Directorate of Protection for Indonesian Citizens, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Kemlu) of Indonesia, and other relevant parties, as well as monitor the repatriation process until the Indonesian nationals arrive safely in Indonesia.
“KJRI Karachi also urges all Indonesian citizens, especially those working in the shipping sector, to always ensure they keep soft copies of personal documents, store important contact numbers, and contact the nearest Indonesian representative if problems or emergency conditions arise while on duty,” he explained.
Previously reported, the missile struck the commercial vessel MV Gold Autumn on Tuesday (7 April 2026). The ship was en route from Shanghai to Oman.
A total of 22 crew members of Chinese, Bangladeshi, Myanmar, Vietnamese, and Indonesian nationalities were on board. Eighteen of them were successfully evacuated from the ship, while four others, including the captain, remained on board.
