The crackdown was carried out by a joint team of 48 personnel, comprising Polres Kampar, Satpol PP, and the Satuan POM Angkatan Udara (AU) at Lanud Roesmin Nurjadin, on Wednesday (20 May 2026). The operation was led by the Kampar Police Resort’s Head of Operations, Kompol Amru Hutahuruk, assisted by Tambang Police Chief AKP Aulia Rahman. The illegal Galian C sites were located at Dusun III Durian Tandang, Desa Kualu, Tambang District, Kampar.

The joint team then conducted sweep operations in the Galian C areas owned by RD and a mine owned by IB, located at Dusun III Durian Tandang, Desa Kualu. At these locations, the group was met by around 50 residents of Desa Kualu who had long awaited the arrival of authorities to address problems seen as damaging to the land and local natural resources.

After thorough inspections, officers found that there was no mining activity underway at the time. However, piles of sand material suspected to be the product of previous mining activity were found.

Next, the team proceeded to the third site owned by parties known as ‘3 PT’, located at Parit Baru, Tambang. At these three locations, police installed police lines to deter any reinitiation of mining activity and to ensure the areas are under legal supervision for subsequent processes.

The officers also carried out dismantling of all structures and facilities used for Galian C activities as a firm measure to curb unlicensed activity.

Kampar Police Chief AKBP Boby Putra Ramadhan Sebayang said the force would take firm action against illegal mining that damages the environment. ‘We will not tolerate any form of activity without official permission and that harms the environment and the interests of the community,’ Boby told reporters on Thursday (21 May 2026).

He added that this crackdown demonstrates the Police’s presence as the law enforcement agency, while also responding to public concern over illegal mining activities. ‘We hear the complaints from around 50 residents of Desa Kualu who have complained about illegal mining in their area. Therefore we have taken decisive steps to tidy up those locations,’ he said.

He added that cooperation with various police units and community support is key to eradicating illegal mining activities. ‘We do not only want to stop the activity, but also ensure that no similar activity is carried out again at those locations,’ he added.

One Desa Kualu resident expressed relief at the actions taken by the police. ‘We have long been worried because these activities damage the land and make the environment unsafe. Thank you to the police for acting promptly to address the issue,’ the resident said.
