Three defendants in crude oil corruption case appeal after 9- to 10-year prison terms
Former President Director of PT Pertamina International Shipping, Yoki Firnandi, has officially filed an appeal against the nine-year prison sentence in the crude oil governance corruption case. His lawyer said the verdict for Yoki did not reflect the facts of the trial.
The filing of the appeal was officially submitted at the Jakarta Corruption Court on Thursday (5 March 2026). Two other defendants who filed appeals are Sani Dinar Saifuddin, former Director of Feedstock and Product Optimization at PT Kilang Pertamina Internasional, and Agus Purwono, former VP of Feedstock Management at PT Kilang Pertamina Internasional.
“Today we have filed our appeal statement against the sentence handed down last Sunday against Mr Yoki Firnandi, Mr Sani Dinar Saifuddin, Mr Agus Purwono,” said the defendants’ lawyer, Dion Pongkor, to reporters on Thursday (5 March 2026).
Dion revealed the reasons for the appeal are the existence of a dissenting opinion from one of the judges. He also assessed that the judge’s decision did not accord with the facts of the trial.
“Why did we decide to appeal? After we studied the contents of the verdict read by the panel last Sunday, it turns out that apart from the dissenting opinion, all of it does not accord with the facts of the trial,” he added.
Dion assessed that the verdict against Yoki, Sani, and Agus was merely a copy-paste of the indictment letter. He hopes the trial facts will be properly considered by the appellate panel.
“Thus our main focus in our appellate brief will be that the Honorable Judex Facti at the appeal stage truly pays attention to the trial facts,” he said.
According to him, the dissenting opinion came from Judge Mulyono Dwi Putro, who followed the trial facts. He hoped to obtain justice in this appeal filing.
“Do the trial facts support the charges? Do they support the narrative that has been conveyed by the Public Prosecutor? Unfortunately, so far the trial facts have contradicted the Prosecutor’s narrative in the indictment and its charges,” Dion stated.
“Therefore we are firmly decided to file an appeal today in the hope of obtaining justice in accordance with the law as we believe this country is a law-based state,” he added.
For information, three other defendants in this case have also appealed. They are Riva Siahaan, former President Director of PT Pertamina Patra Niaga (PT PPN); Maya Kusmaya, former Director of Marketing and Centre of and Trade at PT Pertamina Patra Niaga; and Edward Corne, former VP of Trading Operations at PT Pertamina Patra Niaga.
