Tangerang — Passenger movement at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Tangerang, Banten, on Tuesday, 17 March 2026, or three days before Eid al-Fitr (H-3), reached 162,381 people.

Assistant Deputy for Communications and Legal Affairs at PT Angkasa Pura Indonesia’s Soekarno-Hatta Airport branch, Yudistiawan, stated that passenger movement was dominated by departing passengers leaving Jakarta for their hometowns.

“Departures totalled 94,500 passengers and arrivals 75,343 passengers,” Yudistiawan said when confirmed on Tuesday.

The increase in passenger numbers occurred as Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijri approached, a major annual occasion when Indonesians travel to their home regions.

From an operational perspective, Soekarno-Hatta Airport handled 590 departure flights and 589 arrival flights. “For total aircraft movement, today we reached 1,179 flights,” Yudistiawan said.

Based on terminal distribution, Terminal 2 was the busiest in terms of flight volume, with 447 flights or approximately 37.92 per cent of total traffic. Meanwhile, Terminal 3 recorded the highest number of passengers, with 62,300 people or approximately 36.68 per cent.

Beyond passenger flights, cargo operations continued, with a total of 36 flights or approximately 3.06 per cent of overall aircraft movement.

Yudistiawan stated that the airport was continuing to ensure operational efficiency and services for passengers amid increased traffic as the peak exodus period approached.

“We are continuing to optimise service and coordination with all stakeholders to ensure operational efficiency during the Eid transportation period,” he said.

Based on observations at Soekarno-Hatta Airport, activity at several terminals increased. One notable example was Terminal 3, which became increasingly crowded from the morning. Queues were also visible at several airlines, including TransNusa and Garuda Indonesia, with queues forming at check-in areas and security checkpoints. Airport staff were also observed directing passenger flow to reduce congestion at several points.
