JAKARTA – Three Chinese automobile manufacturers have successfully entered the list of the world’s top 10 global automotive industry rankings for 2025. The list was officially released after Stellantis Group published its financial report on 26 February 2026, completing the annual sales data for major global automotive producers and confirming the global industry ranking map for 2025.

The top four positions remain occupied by established players. Toyota, Volkswagen, Hyundai Motor, and General Motors (GM) continue to hold positions as the world’s largest producers by sales volume.

Meanwhile, three Chinese manufacturers – BYD, SAIC, and Geely – have successfully improved their standings on the global list. In contrast, Nissan has dropped out of the top 10.

BYD has garnered the most attention, rising to sixth place with total sales of 4.602 million units throughout 2025. Of this total, 2.25 million units were pure electric vehicles, representing a 27.86 per cent increase compared to the previous year. This achievement marks the first time BYD has surpassed Tesla in global electric vehicle sales.

China’s government vehicle trade-in programme conducted throughout 2025 generated transactions exceeding 2.6 trillion yuan, equivalent to approximately $380 billion (Rp 6.376 trillion), involving around 360 million consumers. The total number of vehicles exchanged through this programme exceeded 11.5 million units, with approximately 60 per cent being new energy vehicles (NEVs).

Globally, China’s automotive industry position has strengthened considerably. Cui Dongshu, Secretary General of the China Passenger Car Association, stated that China’s automotive market share worldwide reached 35.6 per cent throughout 2025, up from 34.2 per cent in 2024.

Data from the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers recorded 34.531 million units of vehicle production in China in 2025, with sales of 34.4 million units – each representing increases of 10.4 per cent and 9.4 per cent respectively compared to 2024. This achievement reinforces China’s position as the world’s largest automotive market for 17 consecutive years.
