Threatened by Trump, Iran Threatens to Destroy Regional Energy Facilities in Retaliation
Tehran (ANTARA) - Iran has threatened to retaliate against any attack on its energy infrastructure by targeting energy installations across the Middle East, which could lead to long-term increases in oil prices.
“Immediately after our country’s power plants and electricity infrastructure are attacked, all vital infrastructure across the region, including energy and oil infrastructure, will be considered legitimate targets,” said Iran’s parliamentary speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf via social media platform X on Sunday.
Ghalibaf made this statement in response to the threat by US President Donald Trump to destroy Iran’s largest power plants if Tehran does not open the Strait of Hormuz within 48 hours.
Ghalibaf stated that such a retaliatory attack, if it occurs, would “utterly destroy” electricity infrastructure in the region and cause “oil prices to soar for a long time”.
Iran continues to launch attacks on US and Zionist Israeli military targets in retaliation for the joint military operation by the two countries against Iran on 28 February.
On the first day of that attack, Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was killed, while hundreds of primary school girls in southern Iran died after their school was hit by missiles.
According to Iranian authorities, the death toll from the US-Israeli attack on the country currently stands at 1,300 people.
