Jakarta (ANTARA) – The Thousand Islands Police Resort has launched participation in keeping the area clean and carrying out waste sorting through the Jaga Jakarta Bersih dan Asri pledge ceremony held at the grounds of the Representative Headquarters of the Thousand Islands Police Resort, Saturday. ‘This activity forms part of the Metro Jaya Regional Police’s programme to launch the Keep Jakarta Clean and Beautiful movement as a tangible step towards building a culture of environmental care within the police environment,’ said AKBP Argadija Putra, Chief of Police for the Thousand Islands, in Jakarta on Saturday. Argadija said the Jaga Jakarta Bersih dan Asri pledge ceremony marks the start of the movement, rolled out concurrently across the entire chain of command, from the Polda level to Polres and Polsek. He stressed that the programme is a follow-up to the directive of Metro Jaya Police Chief Komjen Pol Asep Edi Suheri, regarding waste management and sorting in police workplaces. Moreover, the programme aligns with government policy on urban waste management and efforts to raise collective awareness of maintaining a clean environment from the workplace. Through this movement, the authorities aim to foster an environmental-awareness culture within Polri. ‘All personnel are expected to have an awareness of keeping the environment clean and to get into the habit of sorting waste according to its type,’ said AKBP Argadija Putra. After the ceremony, all personnel of the Thousand Islands Police Resort immediately conducted cleaning and environmental tidying duties around the office premises. The communal effort involved cleaning the surrounding area and sorting organic and inorganic waste as a tangible embodiment of the environmental care movement. He said similar activities were also carried out simultaneously by the Polsek units within the jurisdiction of the Thousand Islands Police Resort. ‘That step represents a collective commitment to helping create a clean, healthy and pleasant environment,’ he added. Argadija added that these cleaning actions were also undertaken by various elements of society and community organisations from Jakarta and its environs. He said the collaboration aims to strengthen synergy between the Polri and the public in addressing urban waste issues. The Keep Jakarta Clean and Beautiful movement by the Thousand Islands Police Resort invites all elements of society to join in maintaining environmental cleanliness. ‘We are also building a collective awareness of the importance of good waste management to create a comfortable and healthy environment,’ he said.
