The government is preparing 19,668 housing units for renovation through the Self-Help Housing Stimulus Assistance (BSPS) programme in North Sumatra Province for the 2026 Fiscal Year. This programme forms part of efforts to accelerate improvements in housing quality for low-income communities. To ensure the aid is targeted correctly, Minister of Housing and Settlement Areas (PKP) Maruarar Sirait, or Ara, conducted direct field inspections, including visits to potential recipients in Toba Regency. During the visit, Ara examined the conditions of residents’ homes proposed for BSPS while engaging in dialogue with the community. This step is aimed at confirming that the programme truly reaches those in need. In Toba Regency, 46 housing units have been proposed as potential BSPS recipients. The breakdown includes 20 units in Balige Subdistrict, 14 units in Porsea Subdistrict, and 12 units in Bonatua Lunas Subdistrict. This direct field verification is a crucial part of ensuring the aid is delivered accurately. Overall, the BSPS allocation in North Sumatra for 2026 consists of 8,825 units for rural areas, 5,525 units in coastal regions, and 5,285 units in urban areas. This distribution demonstrates the government’s efforts to reach various regional characteristics, including remote and coastal areas. Ara emphasised that the use of state funds in this programme must be precise and in accordance with its intended purpose. “The public is also urged to actively monitor and immediately report any illegal levies, accompanied by clear evidence such as videos and photos, and report it promptly to the Ministry of PKP,” said Ara on Wednesday (25/3/2026). The implementation of the BSPS programme in North Sumatra is scheduled to commence in the second week of April 2026. This programme is expected to enhance the quality of residents’ homes to make them more habitable, healthy, and safe. Nationally, the BSPS programme is one of President Prabowo Subianto’s priorities, with a target of 400,000 units across Indonesia.
