The government, through the Ministry of Housing and Settlement Areas (PKP), is swiftly building terrace houses for residents who have long lived along the railway tracks in the Senen area of Central Jakarta. This programme is a collaboration with several state-owned enterprises (BUMNs), namely PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) and PT Angkasa Pura Indonesia (Persero). Land owned by these red-plate companies is being utilised as the site for constructing housing for low-income communities. The housing is targeted for completion in June 2026. This construction follows up on the promise made by President Prabowo Subianto during his direct visit (blusukan) to the area. Based on the design uploaded by PKP Minister Maruarar Sirait on her personal Instagram account, the housing concept being built is not in the form of flats (rusun), but terrace houses. In the explanation, the construction project will stand on a plot of 5,600 square metres with a total capacity of 324 housing units. The details are 172 units to be built in the rear area and 152 units in the front section. Each housing unit is designed with a minimalist concept measuring 4.5 metres x 4.5 metres, or equivalent to an area of about 20.25 square metres. Although simple, the houses are equipped with basic facilities needed by the occupants. The facilities provided include one open room (without partitions), two beds, a wardrobe, and a ceiling fan. Maruarar stated that the construction progress is moving very quickly. The land clearing process (clearing) has begun and the construction team has started working. “I am pleased to see the very rapid progress. Yesterday we had a meeting, today the process is already underway. Land clearing has started, the team is working, and the construction plan is also clear,” she said. She also assured that the housing area will be equipped with open spaces, so children have a place to play and the environment becomes more livable for families. In the future, this relocation programme for residents along the railway tracks will not only be carried out in the Senen area. The government plans to continue it to several other points, including KAI-owned land in the Tanah Abang and Kampung Bandan areas, which will soon be inspected.
