This is the Reason the Family of Former Deputy Manpower Minister Noel is Seeking Transfer of Detention
Jakarta - The lawyer for former Deputy Minister of Manpower Immanuel Ebenezer, Aziz Yanuar, stated that the application to change his client’s detention status to house arrest is an effort to test the consistency of the KPK’s law enforcement, which is seen as selective. “Immanuel Ebenezer and his family are also applying for house arrest. Actually, the spirit from the family and the legal team is to see how far this law enforcement is just or merely selective?” Aziz said at the Merah Putih Building, Jakarta, on Friday (27/3/2026). “That means, of course, there is selectivity in the KPK, both in the case of Mr Noel and now the former Minister of Religious Affairs Yaqut,” he added. Previously, the family of former Deputy Minister of Manpower Immanuel Ebenezer, alias Noel, planned to file a request to transfer detention to the panel of judges. “We, the legal team, plan to file it at the family’s request,” said Noel’s legal adviser, Aziz Yanuar, when contacted by Kompas.com on Monday (23/3/2026). Aziz assessed that there is injustice in the handling of his client’s case. He stated that Noel was not given the opportunity for inpatient treatment, even though he requires medical attention. However, Aziz said, Noel is experiencing issues with blood vessels in his head, thus needing hospital treatment. Aziz also alluded to the transfer of detention for Yaqut as special treatment not given to other detainees. The application for Noel’s detention transfer will be filed after the Eid al-Fitr 1447 H holiday and collective leave period ends. For information, Yaqut is a suspect in the alleged corruption case of the 2023-2024 Hajj quota. Meanwhile, Noel has been a defendant in the alleged extortion case regarding the processing of K3 certificates and licences. Previously, the KPK transferred Yaqut’s detention from the detention centre to house arrest upon the family’s request submitted on Tuesday (17/3/2026). Yaqut then became a house detainee on Thursday (19/3/2026). After a week, Yaqut returned to detention centre status and underwent examination as a suspect.
