This is the Procedure for Train Drivers in the Event of an Accident During a Train Journey
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - When an incident occurs during a journey, the train driver cannot simply continue without following procedures. There are strict operational standards that must be followed to ensure the safety of the train and its passengers. “In emergency conditions, we are equipped with SOPs on how to handle unusual situations,” said Septian Widi Subekti, Senior Train Driver at the Tanah Abang Train Crew Unit, Jakarta Operational Area 1, in the “A Day With” programme on Kompas.com’s YouTube channel, quoted on Wednesday (29/4/2026). He explained that one of the main procedures is to stop the train if an incident or abnormal condition occurs during the journey. After ensuring the conditions are safe, the driver must report the incident to the train journey control centre. This information serves as the basis for determining whether the journey can continue or requires further handling. “After that, the driver informs the control centre that the train is safe, and then the train proceeds,” he said. It does not stop there; every incident must also be officially reported. “At the first station, the driver must report the incident. That’s the SOP,” said Septian. These procedures are an important part of the train journey safety system, which places verification of facilities and communication as the main keys before the journey is resumed. Septian emphasised that all these stages are designed to ensure there are no subsequent risks that endanger future journeys or the safety of passengers on board.
