Chinese electric vehicle producer BYD is strengthening its expansion in Indonesia via its premium brand Denza. One of the flagship models set to enter the domestic market is the Denza Z9 GT, a high-performance electric car positioned as the top offering in the Denza lineup.

BYD Motor Indonesia President Director Eagle Zhao confirmed that the model will be launched in Indonesia this year, though not in the immediate future.

“We are very serious about the possibilities for launching this model in Indonesia. The Z9 GT is the flagship model under Denza,” Zhao said, quoted on Sunday (22/3/2026).

He added that the model’s arrival is confirmed for the second half of this year.

“It’s very confirmed that it will be launched in Indonesia this year. Not in the first semester, but in the second semester,” he added.

The model was previously showcased at the Indonesia International Motor Show 2025 and drew attention from visitors. Its design features a sporty sedan style with hatchback characteristics and unique manoeuvrability that allows the car to turn in tight spaces.

In terms of dimensions, the Z9 GT measures around 5,180 millimetres in length with a wheelbase of 3,125 millimetres. Its turning radius is approximately 4.62 metres, making this large vehicle agile during manoeuvres.

In performance, this electric car is considered extreme for its class. Its power approaches 1,000 horsepower with 0-100 km/h acceleration in about 3.4 seconds. For range, the vehicle is claimed to cover up to around 630 kilometres on a single charge.

In the Chinese market, the model targets young, high-income consumers and is marketed in the price range of around Rp700 million to Rp800 million. Denza itself is positioned as a brand above BYD, focusing on premium electric vehicles.

In addition to the Z9 GT, the company is open to bringing other models from the Denza lineup to Indonesia, including the Denza B5 plug-in hybrid SUV, which was previously introduced to the public at an automotive event earlier this year. According to Zhao, the initial consumer response to the model has been quite positive, so the company is still studying the right time to market it officially.

The presence of models like the Z9 GT and the potential entry of the B5 are expected to tighten competition in the developing premium electric car market in Indonesia.
