Theft Victim and Social Media Influencer Nabilah O'Brien Also Named a Suspect
The social media influencer and restaurant owner, Nabilah O’Brien, says she has been named a suspect after discussing the theft case she experienced on social media. She conveyed this lament via her Instagram account @nabobrien. In the post, she admitted she had remained silent for five months out of fear. ‘I am a victim of theft who has become a suspect at the Bureau of Criminal Investigation (Bareskrim) of the Indonesian National Police. I was silent for five months because I was afraid to speak out,’ Nabilah said in the post, quoted on Friday (6/3).
Nabilah said she finally dared to speak out in pursuit of justice. She said that for five months she was asked to admit that what she had disclosed and the CCTV footage she released were defamatory. ‘During the five months I was pressed to admit that what I disclosed and my CCTV footage were defamatory, and I was asked for IDR 1 billion. I have tried every conceivable means to defend myself; I was truly afraid,’ she said.
Based on this, Nabilah asked the Commission III of the DPR RI and the Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo to provide justice for her. ‘Sir/Madam Members of Commission III of the DPR RI and the Police Chief, I request legal certainty. I am a victim of theft; I hope to continue my life and I am confident that justice can be upheld. This is all I can do; I do not know where to seek protection,’ she said.
For context, the case began when a husband-and-wife duo, identified by the initials ZK and ER, vented their anger because the food they ordered from Nabilah’s restaurant did not arrive. Not only did they curse the kitchen staff, they also took food home without paying. Nabilah subsequently reported ZK and ER to the police. After investigation, ZK and ER were named as suspects. When contacted, the Metro Jaya Police Public Relations Head, Kombes Budi Hermanto, said there were two separate cases at Nabilah’s restaurant.
The first case concerns alleged theft under Article 363 of the Criminal Code, handled by the Mampang Prapatan Police Sector. ‘Where NAA (Nabilah) acted as the victim, reporting ZK and ESR. The two suspects have been named as suspects and were scheduled for examination on Monday, 9 March 2026, but their legal representatives have sent a letter requesting a postponement of the examination,’ said Budi. Then, the second case concerns the posting of CCTV footage to social media, handled by the Dittipidsiber unit of Bareskrim Polri, in which Nabilah is named as a suspect. ‘So it should be understood that these are two separate cases with different objects. It means that each party’s actions carry legal consequences,’ said Budi. ‘The police remain professional, proportional, and transparent in handling the case,’ he added.
