The Prophet's Morality is the Quran
REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – The personality of the Prophet Muhammad SAW encompasses many noble virtues. Ibn Qayyim stated that the Prophet SAW combined piety towards Allah and noble traits.
Piety can improve the relationship between a servant and Allah Ta’ala. Meanwhile, noble morals can improve relationships with fellow creatures. Thus, piety towards Allah SWT will give rise to a person’s love for Him, while good morals can attract human love towards that person.
Hisham bin Amir once asked Aishah RA about the character of the Prophet Muhammad SAW. Aishah replied, “The character of the Prophet SAW is the Quran” (HR Muslim).
Indeed, Aishah’s answer is brief, but full of meaning. She describes the Prophet Muhammad SAW with one characteristic that can represent all the characteristics he possessed. Indeed, the Prophet’s character is the Quran.
Allah SWT says, which means, “…This Quran guides to the most upright path…” (QS. Al-Israa’: 9).
“(It) guides to the most upright path…” (QS. Al-Jinn: 2).
The Prophet’s character is the Quran - the holy book described by the word of Allah, “…there is no doubt in it; a guidance for those who fear Allah.” (QS. Al-Baqarah: 2).
In the early days of the Islamic da’wah (mission), the Prophet Muhammad SAW not only built the aspect of tauhid (monotheism), but also built the foundations and pillars of noble morals. Abu Hurairah narrated that the Prophet Muhammad SAW said, “Indeed, I was sent to perfect noble morals” (HR. Baihaqi and Al-Hakim).
