The Origin of Romi's Name: Prabowo's One-Ton Sacrificial Cow in Bogor
Bogor — The sacrificial cow purchased by President Prabowo Subianto, named Romi, has been under the care of a breeder from Bogor city, Koharudin (67), since it was born. Romi was named after its birth in Ramadan 2023 to remember Romi’s birth in the holy month.
“Romi has historically been born in Ramadan. So to remember Romi in 2023. Care from a young age,” Koharudin told Kompas.com in Kebon Pedes, Bogor City, on Friday (22/5/2026).
“Well, actually for me personally, because it’s an animal, we humans, it means if there is chemistry, it’s there. But the normal treatment is to be groomed using a cattle brush,” he said.
The animal’s height is about 165 cm, with a chest girth of around 200 cm and a weight of about 1.05 tonnes.
The cow is a cross between a male Simmental and a female FH breed.
“The colour is somewhat greyish. A bit grey. Because it’s a cross. Simmental is red with a white head, FH is brindled, white or white-with-black,” he explained.
Koharudin did not detail the price of the other cattle. For Romi specifically, it was purchased by the Palace authorities for around Rp 90 million to Rp 100 million.
Romi has also met the requirements of the Animal Health Certificate (SKKH) with faecal and blood tests conducted by Balitvet Bogor over a full day.
“The feed is normal. It is mainly concentrates along with forage,” he said.
However, Koharudin has not yet been able to present Romi to the public, due to a full commitment with the Palace to implement protective measures.
“For example, even Aa wants to see him with me, I can’t do that. That is one of the protective steps,” Koharudin explained.
