The North Jakarta City Government has addressed 1,150 trees at risk of toppling
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The North Jakarta City Government (Pemkot Jakut) has handled 1,150 trees at risk of toppling and overhanging branches in January-February 2026 as part of preventive measures against extreme weather in the area. ‘This preventive step has proven effective in significantly reducing instances of trees toppling,’ said Reina Camelia, head of the Parks and City Forest Sub-Department of North Jakarta, in Jakarta on Thursday. She explained that handling was carried out massively in six districts through periodic pruning and tree management. She said this month there has been a significant decrease in tree-toppling cases because they have been conducting routine pruning at high-risk locations. According to a two-month recap this year, of the 1,150 interventions, 199 trees were categorized as light, 743 as moderate, 84 as heavy, and 47 trees were cut down due to certain conditions and endangering safety. She noted that the decline is linked to the consistent execution of the ‘Rabu Menoping’ program, conducted simultaneously across districts. ‘We continue to run the Rabu Menoping program with city- and district-level personnel to survey trees that are overgrown or potentially dangerous,’ she said. In their management, field officers prioritize safety and support the city’s aesthetics. She said a well-organized environment provides a sense of safety and comfort for road users and nearby residents. She also called for citizen participation as a key to the success of this mitigation effort. In January–February 2026, 217 citizen reports about tree issues were addressed via the official Community Rapid Response Channel (CRM). ‘These efforts are expected to strengthen the tree-fall risk mitigation system and keep North Jakarta green, safe, and well–ordered,’ she added.
