The ideal president
The ideal president
From Suara Karya
The choice of the next president in the upcoming election runoff should be based on realistic considerations, with emphasis on the candidate's honesty, courage and the will to sacrifice time, energy and even wealth.
The next president should live in modesty, launch a national prudence campaign and impose high taxes on luxury cars. The top executive should also announce personal wealth when assuming presidency and report it quarterly, in a bid to prevent graft.
The names of family members and relatives of the president should be made public, so as not to receive facilities in their business deals with government offices and state-owned enterprises.
Transparency is also necessary, with regard to salaries of public officials from the president downward, servicemen, police, legislators and state corporate executives. A clear rule should be laid down on the criteria of corruption, punishable by death.
All public officials, servicemen and police should be allowed six months to report their property and pay taxes. If they fail to report or their data prove to be false, the anticorruption court will try their cases.
