The Presidential Special Envoy and Head of the Housing Task Force, Hashim Djojohadikusumo, said the government will build 140,000 vertical housing units on 30 hectares of land donated by Lippo Group in Cikarang, West Java. The development on three parcels of land donated by James Riady, founder of the Pelita Harapan Foundation, forms part of the government’s effort to realise the Three Million Homes Programme. The private sector, in this case Lippo Group, handed over the expansive 30 hectares to the state to build and hand over to households without homes, he said during a land visit in Cikarang, West Java on Sunday, 8 March 2026, as quoted by Antara.

During the occasion, Housing and Public Works and Settlement Areas Minister Maruarar Sirait revealed that vertical housing development is one solution to address the problem of land constraints for housing in urban areas as well as the housing backlog. Private sector involvement, he said, is also a form of financing that enables the government programme to run.

Meanwhile, Rosan Roeslani, CEO of Danantara Indonesia, said the development is part of a joint effort to ensure housing development for low-income households can be carried out in a planned and sustainable manner. He stated that, in line with President Prabowo Subianto’s directives, providing decent and affordable housing for low-income households is a top priority in national development.

After site review, the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) together with Danantara Indonesia will continue the maturation process of the housing development concept, including drafting the housing area development scheme, price-determination mechanism, and formulation of concepts and criteria for purchases by low-income households.

Through collaboration between the government, Danantara Indonesia, state-owned enterprises (BUMN), and the private sector, it will be ensured that the housing development area can be designed thoroughly, both in terms of development concept, price mechanism, and ownership schemes by residents. “Thus it will truly provide access to decent and affordable housing for low-income households,” Rosan said.
