The Attorney General's Office Names West Kalimantan Bauxite Mine Operator as Suspect in IUP Case
“So today, on Thursday 21 May, based on the investigative letter dated 12 May 2026, we have conducted an investigation into alleged corruption involving a deviation in the governance of the IUP at PT QSS in Kalimantan Barat (West Kalimantan),” said Syarief Sulaeman Nahdi, Director of Investigations for Jampidsus at the Attorney General’s Office, at the Bundar Building of Jampidsus on Thursday (21/5/2026). “And just a moment ago we have named one suspect, only one so far, under the initials SDT. This person is the beneficial owner of PT QSS,” he added. The AGO revealed that the mine irregularities by PT QSS involve mining bauxite not at the locations listed on the IUP. PT QSS is alleged to have worked with state officials. “So in essence PT QSS obtained an IUP, but the person concerned did not mine at the location provided; instead they mined elsewhere, exporting using documents from PT QSS in collaboration with state officials,” he said. The abuse is suspected to have occurred from 2017 to 2025. The AGO has also detained several people in Pontianak and Jakarta. “The suspect’s actions have harmed state finances and are currently being calculated by BPKP. The suspect is currently held for 20 days at Salemba Detention Centre, South Jakarta District Prosecutor’s Office,” he concluded. (isa/isa)
