Thailand, KL form trade body

KUALA LUMPUR (DPA): Malaysia and Thailand have agreed
Thursday to set up a joint trade committee and a joint business
council to help spur bilateral trade and investment cooperation.

The agreement was reached in talks between Malaysian Prime
Minister Mahathir Mohamad and his Thai counterpart, Chavalit
Yongchaiyudh, who arrived earlier Thursday on a two-day visit.

Malaysian Foreign Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, briefing
reporters afterwards, said both sides also agreed to revive a
dormant joint agricultural committee in an effort to boost
economic cooperation.

Chavalit had said that he plans to woo Malaysian investors to
Thailand during his trip, and he is scheduled to give a talk on
investment opportunities in Thailand to the Malaysian private
sector on Friday.

Abdullah said both leaders also agreed to study the
possibility of jointly developing disputed border areas for a
mutual "win-win" benefit in a bid to resolve a 15-year-long
demarcation problem of the Malaysian-Thai border.
