Thai journalists halt ties with CAJ
SINGAPORE (AP): The Confederation of Thai Journalists has
suspended its relations and activities with the confederation
representing Southeast Asian journalists after 25 years of
cooperation, an official said on Thursday.
Ivan Lim, president of the Confederation of ASEAN Journalists
(CAJ), said in a statement that the group regretted "the
unprecedented action" by the Thais.
The seven-member Thai delegation walked out of the ASEAN
group's general assembly in Singapore on Monday to "protest
against the lack of transparency and accountability" among the
executive members of the group.
Kavi Chongkittavorn, president of the Thai group, said in a
statement that procedures were not followed and requests to amend
the group's agenda were repeatedly denied.
CAJ was established in 1975 to forge ties among journalists
from members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations.
