Testing of 12-Car Green Line KRL Train Hampered by Power Supply Issues
JAKARTA — PT KCI’s Chief Executive Officer Mochamad Purnomosidi stated that trials of a 12-car electric train (KRL) configuration on the Green Line route, serving the Tanah Abang–Rangkasbitung corridor, have encountered power supply difficulties.
Despite these challenges, the trial operation of the 12-car KRL on the route continues.
“We will continue testing until we identify and resolve the problem. The issue is insufficient electrical capacity. We are attempting to reconfigure the substations,” Purnomosidi said at KCI Hall in Central Jakarta on Monday, 9 March 2026.
“If that fails, we will not proceed with operations,” he added.
Purnomosidi revealed that during ongoing trials, several electrical substations along the Green Line route were found to lack sufficient capacity to support KRL operations with 12 cars. During testing, multiple substations experienced power trips or outages.
“When we run 12 cars, the substations trip because they cannot handle the load,” he explained.
KCI is currently pursuing solutions to enable smooth operation of the 12-car Green Line KRL trial. According to Purnomosidi, potential solutions include increasing electrical capacity or adjusting substation configuration settings.
“The configuration settings may still be adjustable upwards. That is what we are attempting,” he said.
Purnomosidi acknowledged that passenger growth on the Green Line route has been exceptionally strong.
“This demonstrates that both KAI and KCI are committed to providing the best service to passengers. We are testing this approach,” he stated.
He added that the KRL cars being tested are existing carriages from the 205 series train class.
