Testimony of Green Taxi Driver: Engine Dies at Crossing Until Doors Lock
The driver stated that he had only been working for the online taxi service for a few days, having registered, applied, and passed selection. He was introduced to the vehicle’s operations for one day,” said Head of Public Relations for Polda Metro Jaya, Kombes Budi Hermanto, to reporters at Polda Metro Jaya on Friday (8/5/2026). He explained that the vehicle driven by the driver suddenly stalled at a level crossing on the railway tracks. When the driver tried to exit, the doors would not open, and the gear shifted to parking. “When it was being driven, the vehicle died at the level crossing on the railway line. When the driver wanted to open the door to get out, he couldn’t. The transmission shifted to parking,” he said. The driver then tried to turn off the engine and managed to open the window. The driver exited through the car window, assisted by local residents. “When the individual tried to turn off the vehicle and open it, he could then lower the window of the online taxi. Thus, the driver was able to exit safely from the vehicle, assisted by nearby residents through the driver’s side window,” he clarified. Kombes Budi said that the cause of the Green Taxi engine failure is still being investigated to determine if it was related to magnetic fields affecting the vehicle. “This is still being delved into—whether this was an impact from magnetic fields or electrical fields on the online taxi vehicle. This is still being investigated by the Forensic Laboratory Unit, as well as by the KNKT. In parallel, the team is still working to investigate,” he explained. “We ask friends to be patient; we will update on the information from the results of the Forensic Laboratory Unit, including from the KNKT,” he concluded. This accident case has escalated to the investigation stage after criminal elements were found during the case review. The police are still conducting a series of in-depth investigations. As is known, the Argo Bromo Anggrek train collided with a KRL at Bekasi Timur Station on Monday night (27/4). The incident resulted in 16 deaths and 90 others injured. At the time of the accident, the Green Taxi SM was stopped in the middle of the railway tracks not far from Bekasi Timur Station due to a short circuit issue, then hit by a KRL travelling from Cikarang towards Jakarta. The KRL involved in the accident with the taxi then stopped in the middle of the tracks. On the other hand, a KRL heading towards Cikarang was stopped at Bekasi Timur Station as a result of the incident between the Jakarta-bound KRL and the Green Taxi SM. It was this KRL stopped at Bekasi Timur Station that was then hit by the Argo Bromo Anggrek train travelling from Jakarta.
