Tenaga to cut power reserves
KUALA LUMPUR (AP): National power utility Tenaga Nasional Bhd. is considering halving Malaysia's electricity supply reserves, senior officials were reported Tuesday as saying.
Tenaga currently keeps reserves at 30 percent of its total capacity of 13,000 megawatts.
Tenaga Chairman Jamaluddin Jarjis was cited in the New Straits Times newspaper as saying that the reduction could be done in the medium to long term through grid connections with other countries in the region so reserves could be shared.
"We are talking to Thailand and Singapore on the prospects of getting us connected stronger," Jamaluddin was quoted as saying.
Countries in the 10-member Association of Southeast Asian Nations, including Malaysia and its northern and southern neighbors Thailand and Singapore, are in discussions about a region-wide electricity grid.
