TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta:The Indonesian Cattle Breeders Association chairman, Teguh Boediyana, said to meet the national demand for milk, at least 10.000 dairy cows must be imported every year. If this is done, he is optimistic that within the next five years, 40 percent of the national milk requirements can be met locally.
“Cattle imports must be done now. Today, 75 percent of the nation’s demand for milk is still imported,” Teguh said following an information dissemination on beef self-sufficiency program by 2014 at the Agriculture Department on Friday.
