Haggling Over Paddies a Roadblock to Infrastructure Development
The unfinished six-lane highway ends a five-minute walk from Nur Salim’s rice paddy in Java. The road, part of a commercial artery through the world’s most-populated island, is stalled because the farmer wants more money for a plot the size of a tennis court. “We’re going to fight to the end,” Salim, a 55-year-old goatherd, said in his dimly lit wooden house.

Government issues new double taxation regulation
The government has introduced a new set of regulations regarding double taxation agreements (DTA), aimed at tackling misuse of such agreements. The Directorate General of Taxation has made changes to the regulations and administrative procedures for taxpayers who apply for double taxation. These measures are aimed at tackling the misuse of DTA, for example treaty shopping, as well as to enhance transparency and increase tax revenue.

Indonesia to host world food exposition next week
The Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) is gearing up to host an international conference and exhibition on food, aimed at introducing domestic producers to the global market. President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono will launch the two-day "Feed the World" event on Jan. 28 at the Jakarta Convention centre. Hundreds of participants - including food producers, business associations, academics and international bodies - will take part.

Indonesia Vows To Protect Domestic Market
Minister Mari Elka Pangestu said over the weekend that a postponement of the implementation of the Asean-China Free Trade Agreement was not an option and that Indonesia must rely on other methods to protect its domestic market and limit damage to its companies and workers. “We have set up a team to study and evaluate everything. The important thing is how to improve the competitive edge of Indonesian products,” Mari said on Saturday.
