Temporarily Suspended: 16 UI Law Faculty Students Suspected of Harassment Banned from Attending Classes
Universitas Indonesia (UI) has taken firm action regarding allegations of verbal sexual harassment involving students from the Faculty of Law. Sixteen students suspected of involvement have been officially subjected to temporary academic suspension as part of the initial handling process.
This policy is implemented to ensure the examination process runs objectively and to guarantee protection for all related parties.
The decision follows recommendations from UI’s Task Force on Prevention and Handling of Violence (Satgas PPK), outlined in an Internal Memo on the Plan for Follow-up Examination (RTLP).
UI’s Director of Public Relations, Media, Government, and International Affairs, Erwin Agustian Panigoro, emphasised that the step is taken to maintain the integrity of the investigation process.
“This recommendation is part of the follow-up steps to ensure the examination process runs optimally, objectively, and fairly,” Erwin stated in his comments on Wednesday, 15 April 2026.
As an implementation of these recommendations, UI has established a period of temporary academic suspension for the suspected students.
“UI has set a temporary academic suspension for the 16 suspected students from 15 April to 30 May 2026,” he explained.
During the suspension period, the students in question are not permitted to participate in any academic activities, including lectures, supervision, and other educational activities.
“During the suspension period, the suspects are not permitted to participate in all educational activities and teaching and learning processes, including lectures, academic supervision, or other activities related to academic pursuits,” Erwin stressed.
In addition, the campus has restricted these students’ access to the university environment.
They are only allowed to enter the campus area for examination purposes by Satgas PPK or in certain urgent conditions, under strict university supervision.
Furthermore, their involvement in student organisations has been temporarily halted. Intensive monitoring measures are applied to prevent any interaction between the suspects and victims or witnesses, either directly or indirectly.
“This step is taken as part of the university’s commitment to ensure the examination process runs objectively, protects all involved parties, and maintains a conducive academic environment,” Erwin stated.
