Tehran – A member of Iran’s Parliamentary Commission on National Security and Foreign Policy, Behnam Saeedi, emphasised on Thursday (7 May 2026) that no uranium has been removed from Iran. US President Donald Trump had previously stated that the transfer of Iran’s uranium to the United States would be a condition for any agreement between the two countries, while rejecting the possibility of Iran enriching uranium up to 3.67 per cent.

“Trump’s statement about the removal of 400 kilograms of uranium from Iran is political bluster and pure lies. No uranium has been removed from this country,” Saeedi said, quoted by ISNA.

Last week, Trump asserted that the US would secure Iran’s stockpile of enriched uranium “by any means necessary”.

“We want to get it. We will take it by any means. We will get it. We will get it or we will take it. They will give it to us or we will take it,” the US president said at the White House.

Trump’s remarks were made amid the ongoing impasse between the US and Iran, as talks to achieve a permanent end to the conflict – currently under an extended deadline set by the US president – remain stalled. Several reports indicate that Iran has proposed reopening the Strait of Hormuz while postponing negotiations on its nuclear programme to the next phase.

Tensions have escalated since 28 February, when the US and Israel launched attacks on targets in Iran, causing damage and civilian casualties.

On 7 April, Washington and Tehran announced a two-week ceasefire, but subsequent talks in Islamabad ended without agreement. Trump then extended the suspension of attacks to give Iran time to prepare a “comprehensive proposal.”
