Tehran (ANTARA) - Tehran residents have taken to the capital’s central square for nearly 90 days since the US and Israel launched attacks on Iran, showing support for the government amid ongoing negotiations.

“We are in the streets to support our government and armed forces. Yes, a ceasefire has been declared, but until the threat of war to our country is completely gone, we will remain in the square,” said Fatima Rahmani, one of the protesters, to RIA Novosti.

Dozens of families gathered at Valiasr Square in central Tehran. Daily protesters waved national flags and symbols of Lebanon’s Shia movement Hezbollah, while chanting anti-American and anti-Israel slogans.

Similar events took place at other key locations across the city.

Citizens also set up tents along the ring road: in some, theologians delivered speeches, while others served tea to passersby or drew cartoons depicting the US and Israel in the current confrontation.

On the facade of a building, local authorities displayed a poster featuring a man resembling US President Donald Trump, with his lips symbolically “closed” by the Strait of Hormuz.

On 28 February, the US and Israel launched attacks on targets in Iran, causing damage and civilian casualties.

Washington and Tehran announced a two-week ceasefire starting 7 April, but subsequent talks in Islamabad ended without results, and the US imposed a port blockade on Iran.

US President Donald Trump then extended the ceasefire to allow Iran time to submit a peace proposal.
