Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - The Iranian Ambassador to the Republic of Indonesia, Mohammad Boroujerdi, issued an official response regarding the issue of foreign infiltration into Iran’s internal government. This was in response to various speculations that emerged after precision strikes carried out by the United States and Israel on Iranian territory, which killed the country’s leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

Boroujerdi revealed that the possibility of traitors within a state structure is a normal thing in the arena of global geopolitics. He emphasised that spying practices do not target only one country, but pose a challenge for all nations in defending their sovereignty.

‘Traitors or betrayers may exist. And such things may occur in any country, and I am sure that in all countries in the world there are traitors and those who spy,’ Boroujerdi said in a press conference at his residence in Jakarta, quoted on Sunday (8/3/2026).

Additionally, Boroujerdi highlighted the active role of Israeli intelligence which, according to him, has spread widely in various regions, especially in Muslim-majority countries. He said that the network of agents has been trained to carry out missions beyond their own borders.

‘The Zionist regime of Israel has trained its spies and intelligence agents in almost every country in the world, particularly in Islamic countries. And this is not limited or confined to Iran,’ he explained.

Furthermore, Boroujerdi issued a warning about foreign intelligence networks that may be operating in Indonesia. He urged the public to watch for trends among parties supporting steps by the Israeli regime as one indicator of espionage activity.

‘I am sure that in almost every country in the world they have spies and intelligence. Look at Indonesia, which parties support the steps of the Zionist regime of Israel. From there, indicators of who is doing spying and who is intelligence from the United States can be revealed,’ he said.

The Iranian ambassador did not deny that his country has been harmed several times by acts of individuals who defect. However, he stressed that experiences dealing with such betrayals have taught Iran valuable lessons in strengthening its internal resilience.

‘Therefore, my country has been struck by traitors who have existed and who exist. But we have learned a lot from these matters. We must collectively believe that those who betray are unlikely to provide direct and tangible support to the party with which they are affiliated,’ he clarified.

Not to be left behind, Boroujerdi also outlined the modus operandi often used by traitors, including triggering polarization and differences of opinion within the Muslim community. This is viewed as a systematic effort to break the unity that should be a shield for the Islamic world.

‘But they take other steps as well, namely supporting divisions and grouping the world of Islam. When unity is needed by the Islamic community, those traitors attempt to divide and fragment the Islamic world. And traitors are the common enemies of the entire Islamic world and the entire world,’ he added.

Boroujerdi likened the unity of the Islamic world to the roof of a house that protects all its inhabitants, regardless of madhab background. He warned that if the roof of unity collapses due to betrayal, all elements under it will be victims.

‘If there is a roof above a house that collapses, everyone under that roof will become a victim. The roof that collapses does not filter whether you belong to the Shia, Sunni, Maliki, Hanafi, Shafi’i schools, and so on. The roof I mean is Islam,’ he said.

Boroujerdi continued, the Islamic world is the group under that roof. Unity is the roof above the Islamic world. ‘If the roof of unity collapses, it will make all parties and groups within Islam victims,’ he added.

As is known, US and Israel launched a military strike on Iran since 28 February 2026. It is reported that Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was killed in the attack, along with several officials.

Suspected Spy

But there was one person who survived the attack. He was General Esmail Qaani or also known as Ismail Qaani. He is the commander of the Quds Force, the elite overseas operations wing of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards (IRGC). This fact subsequently led Qaani to be accused of espionage or spying in his own country. The accusation against Qaani is not without reason, considering he survived two previous Israeli attacks.

So, is it true that traitors exist within Khamenei’s inner circle?

In fact, Mossad has denied the allegations. In a statement posted on the Turkish Haberler site, Mossad said that Ismail Qaani, as the commander of the IRGC’s Quds Force, is not an Israeli intelligence agent.

That statement rejected months of speculation that the Iranian general had defected to Israeli intelligence. But this has not stopped the questioning.

Qaani has long been known as a high-ranking commander responsible for IRGC’s overseas operations. He was appointed to replace the former Quds Force leader Qassem Soleimani, who was killed in 2020 in a U.S. operation in Baghdad, Iraq.

However, during his tenure, the ‘Axis of Resistance’ in the Middle East that was built
