Teens Who Electrocuted Boy in Jakarta Park Claimed They Didn't Know Pole Was Live
Police have revealed the statements of two teenagers who bullied a six-year-old boy, resulting in him being electrocuted at Kramat Park, Kramat Village, Senen District, Central Jakarta. They claimed they did not know the pole in the park carried an electrical current.
“From the examination results, the juveniles in conflict with the law admitted they did not know the lamp post had an electrical current,” said the Head of the PPA-PPO Unit at the Central Jakarta Metro Police, Kompol Rita Oktavia Shinta, in a statement on Friday (12/6/2026).
However, the police are still processing the incident. The perpetrators panicked when they saw the victim faint after being pressed against the park pole. They then took the victim back to his home.
“They seemed to panic, judging from the CCTV footage. They panicked, and eventually one of the suspected perpetrators pulled the child away from the pole. Then, because the victim fainted, the suspected perpetrator took the victim home,” she explained.
Although the perpetrators claimed they did not know the pole was live, Rita stressed that the case is still being processed. She also confirmed that the rights of the underage perpetrators are being fulfilled in accordance with applicable regulations.
“However, the act that caused the victim injury and required medical treatment remains the basis for legal proceedings. Investigators are currently completing the case file to be coordinated with the public prosecutor,” said Rita.
“We are fulfilling the rights of both the victim and the juveniles in conflict with the law. We are also coordinating with the Correctional Centre, social workers, and the prosecutor’s office to ensure the case handling proceeds according to regulations,” she added.
The two juveniles are being processed under Article 76C in conjunction with Article 80 of Law Number 17 of 2016 concerning the Stipulation of Government Regulation in Lieu of Law Number 1 of 2016 on the Second Amendment to Law Number 23 of 2002 on Child Protection, which prohibits violence against children.
Suspect ALR (17) will be detained, while RM (13) will be returned to his parents and subjected to a mandatory reporting obligation during the investigation process.
