Teenager Kills Sibling in Kelapa Gading, Angered by Victim's Demands on Their Mother
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - MAL (15) killed his older brother, MAR (21), in Kelapa Gading, North Jakarta, allegedly because he was annoyed by the victim’s frequent requests for money from their mother.
The Head of the Child Protection and Women’s Rights Unit at the North Jakarta Metropolitan Police, Kompol Ni Luh Sri Arsini, said that the perpetrator felt sorry for his mother, who he believed was in a difficult situation.
“He felt sorry for his mother. His brother made too many demands on their mother, while their mother was also in a difficult situation. That’s what the boy didn’t like,” said Sri when met by Kompas.com at the North Jakarta Metropolitan Police on Wednesday (25/2/2026).
These requests triggered the perpetrator’s emotions, which he had been suppressing for some time.
“It reached a climax because of the victim’s request to their mother, which the boy felt was unfair to his mother,” she said.
However, the conflict did not happen suddenly, but was the result of a long-standing problem.
Various internal family problems that had been simmering are also suspected of contributing to MAL’s feelings, which eventually reached a breaking point.
“It was the accumulation of events that had been happening for months,” said Sri.
Because the perpetrator is a minor in conflict with the law, the examination process was carried out with the assistance of a social worker.
“The examination was also accompanied by a social worker, family members, and legal assistance. It was a complete process,” she said.
The police have examined at least seven witnesses, including local residents and the doctor who helped take the victim to the hospital.
Currently, the legal process has been upgraded from investigation to investigation.
“And we plan to upgrade the status of the boy from witness to a child in conflict with the law,” said Sri.
