Teddy Meets GoTo CEO, Discusses Prabowo's Online Ride-Hailing Policy
SECRETARY to the Cabinet Teddy Indra Wijaya met Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of PT GoTo Gojek Tokopedia Hans Patuwo at the Cabinet Secretariat Office in Jakarta. The meeting took place on Friday night, 22 May 2026.
Teddy said that during the meeting he listened to and accepted several inputs from the GoTo CEO, whose company also operates the ride-hailing app or ojol Gojek. ‘According to his statement, at present (Gojek) has around 800 thousand to 1 million active drivers across Indonesia,’ Teddy said in a written statement on Saturday, 23 May 2026.
Since its inception, Teddy noted, the number of drivers who have joined Gojek is estimated to have reached 3 million people. The figure includes drivers who are still active, part-time, and those who are no longer driving.
According to Teddy, Gojek stated its commitment to supporting President Prabowo Subianto’s policy to improve drivers’ income. The move is to change the revenue share for drivers from 80 percent to 92 percent of each transaction.
Currently, Teddy said, the government and business players continue to coordinate to find the best solutions that are in favour of drivers. ‘While also maintaining the sustainability of the business ecosystem to remain healthy and grow,’ he said.
He added that Prabowo wants online drivers’ welfare improvements to go hand in hand with the sustainability of a fair and sustainable business. ‘Where the app operators must still obtain profit from the business in a fair and increasing manner,’ Teddy said.
President Prabowo previously announced the revenue-sharing rules for online motorcycle taxi drivers or ojol with the platform companies. In the new policy, ojol drivers receive a larger portion of the revenue.
Prabowo announced the move while delivering a speech during International Workers’ Day or May Day celebrations at the National Monument area, Jakarta, on Friday, 1 May 2026. ‘The distribution of income from (initially) 80 percent for drivers, now becomes at least 92 percent for drivers,’ Prabowo told workers.
The General Chairperson of the Gerindra Party stated that the policy had been signed into force through Presidential Regulation Number 27 of 2026 on the Protection of Online Transportation Workers. Under this regulation, online transportation platform companies can only take an 8 percent cut from drivers. Previously, platforms typically cut up to 20 percent.
