Teddy Discusses National Internship Programme with Labour Minister
Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya received Labour Minister Yassierli at the Cabinet Secretariat Office in Jakarta. The two discussed the national internship programme that the government will implement again.
Teddy stated that together with Yassierli, they discussed the progress and strategic plans in the labour sector. “Including the 2025-2026 National Internship Programme which is currently followed by 100,000 internship participants, with the initial number of registrants reaching around 400,000 people,” said Teddy in his statement, quoted on Sunday, 26 April 2026.
Teddy said the government plans to increase the national internship quota for the 2026-2027 period. He believes this programme can improve the quality and expertise of the internship participants.
“The opportunity for work experience, gaining knowledge from mentors, and receiving monthly wages in accordance with the provincial minimum wage from the central government provides greater encouragement for university graduates to register,” he said.
In addition, in the meeting, Teddy and Yassierli also discussed planning for vocational training programmes for vocational school graduates. “The Ministry of Manpower is also continuing to implement various programmes to improve the skills and welfare of workers, especially for labourers, outsourcing workers, and domestic workers,” said Teddy.
The Ministry of Manpower previously submitted a proposal to increase the number of national internship participants for the 2026 period to 150,000 people. “This is just a proposal, we have already submitted the letter to the President,” said Yassierli in a working meeting with Commission IX of the DPR broadcast live on YouTube, on Thursday, 9 April 2026.
Yassierli said the Ministry of Manpower is still awaiting budget availability. He hopes the Ministry of Finance will provide support so that the implementation of the national internship programme can continue this year. The proposed number of participants submitted by Yassierli is higher than the initial plan of 100,000.
On the same occasion, Yassierli recounted findings from the Ministry of Manpower during a review of the national internship programme. He said there were disabled participants from the regions who had the opportunity to intern in Jakarta, as well as participants who used their wages to help their parents.
