Teddy: 96 Million Citizens Trust Prabowo More Than Observers
Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya believes that Indonesian society trusts President Prabowo Subianto more than observers. According to Teddy, these observers tend to create anxiety about the state of the nation.
Teddy stated that these observers have long tried to influence public opinion. “Most of these observers have been trying to influence citizens and shape public opinion for a long time, even before Mr Prabowo became president,” said Teddy at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Friday night, 10 April 2026.
According to Teddy, the number of observers is increasing. However, he claims they often speak without basis in fact or with erroneous data. He calls this phenomenon “observer inflation”.
Nevertheless, Teddy is confident that the public trusts the government more than the observers. “These observers have influenced citizens, but what are the facts? The fact is that more than 96 million citizens trust Mr Prabowo and do not trust them. That is concrete proof of public trust, not just an assumption,” he said.
Teddy stated that differing opinions and criticism are perfectly acceptable. “But we should not make statements that lead to anxiety, making people worried about this nation,” he said.
Teddy remarked that Indonesia is currently in good condition. “Everything is stable, everything is under control, let us all work together to achieve the best moving forward,” he said.
According to him, everyone should have hope and good prayers for the nation. “We should not be the ones encouraging others to have bad hopes and prayers for the nation we love,” he stated.
President Prabowo previously accused several observers of lacking a patriotic stance. He claimed they gain financial benefits from criticising the government.
Prabowo said there are several types of observers in Indonesia. One of them, he said, are those who do not want his government to succeed due to hidden motives. “In my view, their attitude is narrow-minded, not patriotic,” said Prabowo during a cabinet meeting at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Friday, 13 March 2026.
Prabowo stated that he regularly receives intelligence reports about observers who dislike the government. From those reports, he said, he knows the parties funding them.
Prabowo said he wants to take action against them. “In due time, we will straighten all that out. But for now, we are still trying with persuasive methods,” he said.
Prabowo speculated about the motivations of these critics. According to him, they might feel defeated, powerless, or have lost sources of funding because of his government’s firm stance against corruption.
“Especially thieves and corruptors, they must feel at a loss with our administration. We want to straighten things out,” he said.
