Taxi driver robs Taiwanese

JAKARTA (JP): A taxi driver robbed a Taiwanese passenger yesterday of Rp 200,000 (US$84) in Pondok Cabe, some 25 kilometers south of the capital, a police source said.

A police officer at the South Jakarta Police Precinct said an unidentified taxi driver robbed Song Yung in the Pondok Cabe area, taking his wallet containing cash and two credit cards.

The police sergeant said Song stopped the taxi in the Blok M area in South Jakarta and asked the driver to take him to Century Athlete Hotel in Senayan.

"The driver took Song to the Pondok Cabe area instead. The driver suddenly pointed a knife at the victim, demanded his wallet and then told him to get out of the taxi," the sergeant said.

He said the taxi driver gave the victim Rp 10,000 before fleeing. (jun)
