The Directorate General of Taxes (DJP) has assured individual taxpayers who delay reporting and paying their Annual Income Tax Return (SPT) until 30 April 2026 that they will not face administrative sanctions. This leniency is stipulated in DJP Announcement No. PENG-28/PJ.09/2026. The regulation states that taxpayers submitting their SPT, paying Article 29 income tax, or settling any tax shortfall after 31 March up to 30 April 2026 will be exempt from fines and interest penalties. Moreover, if a tax bill has already been issued, the DJP will cancel the sanctions ex officio. Delays in reporting during this period will also not affect taxpayer status, including avoidance of criteria revocation for certain taxpayers. This policy provides leeway for the public who have not yet met their obligations by the normal 31 March deadline, while responding to the ongoing adjustment phase of the tax administration system. Director General of Taxes Bimo Wijayanto stated that the implementation of the new Coretax system has made the reporting process more complex due to the integrated and automatically pre-populated taxpayer data. Bimo explained that every piece of data entering the system must be confirmed against various other databases, such as population and business licensing data. “Now every data must be reconfirmed with comparative databases. So it is indeed more detailed and complex,” Bimo clarified at the Ministry of Finance in Jakarta on Friday (27/3/2026). Bimo did not deny that taxpayers in the field are still facing technical issues, such as slow systems or buffering. These are considered part of the adaptation process. “This is a new system, like a newborn baby. There is a learning curve, both for users and for us,” he said. To anticipate a surge in reporting, the DJP has increased service capacity. Currently, the system can handle up to 390,000 SPTs per day. As of Thursday (26/3/2026) at 24:00 WIB, the number of submitted SPTs reached 9,131,427. The majority came from individual employee taxpayers at 8,196,513, followed by non-employees at 924,443, and business entities at around 190,000. Meanwhile, Coretax account activations by the DJP continue to rise. A total of 16,963,643 taxpayers have activated their accounts, dominated by individuals. The DJP is also keeping services open in several regions during the Eid al-Fitr holiday, including in Papua and Maluku, to assist the public with SPT reporting. Amid this leniency, Bimo noted that millions of taxpayers have yet to report. “As of yesterday, it’s almost 9.1 million. We’re still waiting for around 5 million more,” said Director of Dissemination, Services, and Public Relations at the DJP, Inge Diana Rismamawanti. Bimo added that the DJP is providing space until the end of April for reporting and payments, in line with the ongoing system adjustments. “It has been decided up to 30 April, for both reporting and payments,” Bimo said.
